  栗憲庭電影基金在此次的第五屆北京獨立電影展之中增加了“國際學生短片展-北京”。其實之前影展裡的短片單元中也有一些學生作品的參與,那麼這次為甚麼將其單獨地劃分出來並擴大範圍和增加數量呢?我想必有其目的。
  此次選片,大家是帶著很多問題來進行的,所以這篇文字難免就會有許多的問號呈現,大家不妨一起來想。
  短片是一種很好的創作實踐練習,那麼除了練習創作能力、應變能力、技術能力等等之外還應該再練習些甚麼呢?短片是一種很好的經驗積累方式,那麼除了積累工作經驗、操作經驗、合作經驗等等之外還應該再積累些甚麼呢?
  學生短片應該是怎樣的呢?人們對學生短片的關注點又是甚麼呢?
  我們似乎見過各種各樣的學生短片,見過各種各樣的關於學生短片的影展,這其中有甚麼統一的判斷標準嗎?似乎沒有,但似乎又有。“似乎又有”的東西是個甚麼東西呢?大家不妨仔細想想,再仔細想想,可以把範圍放的很大,不僅自己,自己的周邊,自己的學校,自己的國家,甚至是全人類。想完之後這個“似乎又有”的東西明確了嗎?
  我們需要甚麼樣的學生作品?這個問題其實就像是問我們需要甚麼樣的學生一樣。面對這樣一個似乎不是問題的問題,有人來回答嗎?您說出口的回答會使您難為情嗎?不回答是因為您羞於說出口嗎?聽到的人會以為然嗎?會遵循您的期望去做嗎?
  我們還是回過頭來先看看學校裡的學生應該是甚麼樣的吧:學生應該具有追尋真理的慾望、享受自由的慾望、關注世界的慾望、表現自我的慾望、思考的慾望、行動的慾望、破壞的慾望、創造的慾望、給人們一個驚喜的慾望、向世人證明自己的慾望。
  學生是未來,學生是希望。那麼,仔細打量打量自己,你們是嗎?
  帶著這樣一些問題進行選片,這些問題同樣也存在與這些所選的片子之中。
  我們身處這樣一個國度,而且在“心臟”,所以不自覺地會有某些特定的立場,不論這種“立場”是優勢還是劣勢,都是客觀給與我們的,我們不會回避,而且要穩穩地站在其中,尊重這些“客觀”以贏得別人的尊重。
  在一個“我只為我”的年代,談“人人為我”是個妄想,更別說“我為人人”了。也許只有在無限的關注自我和自我關注到厭倦和無奈的時候,在真正感覺到自我是多麼有限和渺小的時候,人們才會將自己的目光稍稍抬起一些,發現周遭其它的驚喜。在這裡,我們只是希望能夠提供一個讓人充分關注自我、展示自我的平台的同時,也提供一個可以發現“其它”的空間,這需要大家一起來。

  Short film, Student, and the Desire
  Li Xianting's Film Fund has added International Student Short Film Festival of Peking (ISSFF) to Beijing Independent Film Festival (BIFF) of 2010.
  In fact, student works have already been involved in previous BIFF, normally in the short film unit. Then is it necessary to particularly hold a film festival for these works this year? Yes, I guess.
  Film selection personnel of the first ISSFF have been working with questions. These questions will also be presented in this article, to arouse considerations and discussions on a larger scale.
  Short film is an effective way of filmmaking practice. Besides cinematic creation ability, adaptability, technical skills, what else of short film making could benefit a student?
  Short film is an efficient way of accumulating filming experience. Besides producing experience, operational experience, teamworking
  experience, what else could a student build up from the process of short film making? What are the student short films supposed to be? What are the core concerns of the audiences on student short films? It seems that we have watched all kinds of student short films and have attended all kinds of film festivals about such works. However, is there any unified standard of judging good student works from the bad? If there is, what is “it”? We might as well think over and think hard, extend our thinking circles from ourselves, to our surroundings, to our school, to our country, and even to the entire human beings. Is “it” clear now?
  What kinds of student works are we calling for? This is another way of asking what kinds of students we are expecting. Is there anyone would answer this question? Will the answer embarrass you? Do you feel ashamed to tell the answer? Will people care about your answer when hearing it? Will they follow your expectations?
  We had better stick to the point and give the ideal student a scan: As I see it, such student should have the desire to pursue the truth, desire to enjoy freedom, desire to understand the world, desire to express the self, desire to think, desire to act, desire to break, desire to create, desire to surprise the human beings, and desire to prove the self to the world.
  Students are the future. Students are the hope. The question is: are you?
  I have been selecting the films with so many questions, which as well exist in the films being selected.
  We can not help taking on a certain standpoints, since we are staying in the “heart” of such a country. We are not going to avoid or deny these standpoints no matter they will bring us fortune or disaster. Since these standpoints are provided by the objective world, we have decided to stand firmly by them, respect them, and win others' respect.
  In such an era of “one for one”, the notion of “all for one” has become a delusion, let alone the “one for all” myth. We probably will not raise our eyes to look around until we have given excessive concerns to ourselves and get bored, until we start to sincerely realize how tiny we are. And when we do, we will find out plenty of close-by surprises which have already existed there for long.
  Here, we would merely like to provide a chance to help you think twice about yourself, boldly express yourself, and then discover a larger, external world.
  Yes, I am inviting all of you to face the challenge.
